NAW2017 is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy. The objective of NAW2017 is to increase awareness and take-up of apprenticeships:
- Recognising apprenticeships as a ladder of opportunity to a brighter future and showing that they are available for all
- Celebrating the benefits apprenticeships bring to employers and the impact apprentices can have on businesses and the wider economy.
- Celebrating 10 years of National Apprenticeship Week and the impact apprentices have made over that time.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Apprenticeships
There are currently 3 NDT Apprenticeships available, which are supported by the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT):
The Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes, designed with employers, which combine on- and off-the-job learning and development activities. Lavender International NDT is now in partnership with a number of training providers around the country to offer these Apprenticeships. We are currently providing this BINDT and Government initiative for all types of organisations, from large multi-national corporations who are taking on more staff to increase their workforce, to small individual companies who are up-skilling their current employees.
Who can do the NDT Apprenticeship?
Anybody over the age of 16 years can become an NDT Apprentice! If you do not currently work in the industry, you will first need to find and employer who is running the NDT Apprenticehip and contact them directly. A list of supporting employers can be found on the BINDT website.

Why choose to do an NDT Apprenticeship?
- You will gain world recognised qualifications in NDT methods specific to industry needs; and you will get paid while you do this!
- A career in NDT is extremely dynamic, where up-to-date training is a necessity. Qualification is very important for the NDT industry, as errors can have disastrous consequences; therefore an NDT operator can expect to have to refresh skills regularly, attend training courses and take examinations.
- NDT is composed of a number of different disciplines, each is a branch of applied physics. This means a career in NDT should never stagnate, there is always the opportunity to diversify into a different method, or to specialise in one method to an advanced level of competence.
- Being certified to inspect in just one NDT method could potentially open up opportunities to travel the world exploring new places and gaining a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Apprenticeship Funding
The government is doubling the level of spending on Apprenticeships by 2019-20 in cash terms, as part of the reforms, and will be introducing the Apprenticeship Levy from 1st May 2017. For information about the Apprenticeship Levy, please click here.
