We are delighted to be recruiting for SGS who are looking to onboard an Apprentice NDT Technician and deliver the required training with Lavender as their training provider.

Non-destructive testing from SGS ensures the safe and efficient operation of equipment and assets by detecting defects before they result in severe damage, and assures compliance with international standards.

Main Purpose of Role

  • To receive training, guidance and mentoring from defined SGS united kingdom personnel so as at key defined points during the three year apprenticeship key performance indicators are met.
  • To be trained to undertake operational activities on behalf of the department within the discipline of non-destructive testing (NDT) and inspection, so as to ensure customers deadlines are achieved both within the workshop or on site.
  • Assist the inspection department in ensuring that required levels of profit are achieved.
  • Follow training to perform non-destructive testing and inspection duties so as to deliver to our customers a complete and quality product.
  • To achieve a recognised NDT qualification and be recognised as competent in the discipline of NDT within a period of three years from the commencement of the NDT apprenticeship
  • NDT Apprentices are directly responsible to the QA/QC NDT Engineer for operational control and work coordination relating to NDT and Inspection.

Key Accountabilities

  • To complete all defined training as required by the SGS Operations Manager and Lavender NDT.
  • To be trained to undertake NDT and Inspection at locations as advised by SGS so that customers’ needs are met in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are met in accordance with the H&S at work act and the Management of H&S regulations.
  • Work in accordance with industry best practices and recommendations to which SGS subscribe ( Safed / BINDT).
  • Provide an NDT and Inspection service to customers to support their compliance or decision making and maximise return and efficiency.
  • To always work in accordance with SGS issued procedures and under applicable risk assessments during all work activities.

Skills, knowledge and experience

The Apprentice NDT Technician shall meet the following requirements as:

  • A basic knowledge of statutory legislation (H&S)
  • Able to understand the tasks and training to be delivered and apply learning in the workplace
  • Previous experience working in an industrial environment
  • Able to meet deadlines set
  • Knowledge of IT systems, particularly MS Office applications
  • Ability to work effectively on your own initiative or as part of a team
  • Able to work flexibly, learn quickly and adapt to changing demands and priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to deal with colleagues at various levels within the organisation

Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent, A*- C grades in Mathematics, English and science subjects
  • A full valid driving licence to drive in the UK

Desirable

  • Educated to ‘A’ level standard or equivalent.
