This was the couple’s first ever marathon and the pair did incredibly well; with Paul finishing in under 3 hour 30 minutes and Nikki finishing strong in just over 5 hours. Paul and Nikki ran the marathon to raise money for a charity close to their heart – the Women and Infants Research Foundation (WIRF); after their friends, Lauren and Martin, had received great support from this charity after the birth of their baby girl Freya. WIRF has helped to provide around the clock care from medical professionals and state of the art neonatal equipment for Freya, whose health is continuing to improve. Baby Freya even went with her family to cheer on Paul and Nikki and have a post run cuddle with the couple at the finish line (see pictures above)!
Paul told us that he was pleased that all his training had paid off and that he was thrilled to have raised over $1300 for WIRF. When asked if they are planning to run another marathon any time soon, Nikki told us that it was their “first and very likely our last!” If you would like to find out more about the cause, please visit: https://www.mycause.com.au/page/122806/marathon-for-wirf
On behalf of all at Lavender International, we are very proud of Paul and Nikki and their successful first marathon in Perth. Congratulations!
