Work experience in months is based on a nominal 40 hours/week or the legal week of work. When an individual is working in excess of 40 hours per week, he may be credited with experience based on the total hours, but he shall be required to produce evidence of this experience.

If you are entering directly into Level 2 you MUST add the experience for Level 1 and Level 2 together.

E.g.

MT direct entry to level 2 requires 4 months / 640 hours


There are two pages to the PSL 30, to claim your work experience you must submit your forms either to us before your course or BINDT (PCN) within 2 years after the date of your exam.

Form one is to record your work experience, someone signing as the Qualified supervisor, must hold certification at a higher or equivalent level as certification required by the candidate and shall be valid at the time the experience was gained by the candidate. This may include certification schemes other than ISO 9712, such as EN 4179 and SNT-TC-1A providing that this certification has been gained using external training/examination support provided by a BINDT approved organisation. Organisations holding ATO, AQB, and/or Outside Agency status. Where the employing organisation does not have appropriately qualified supervision: Please contact pcn@bindt.org for further advice.

Form 2 (PSL30) is included as an example of a format for recording a candidate’s experience. Other formats are acceptable to PCN providing they address and meet the details included in this form 2 (PSL30).

Possible reductions for more than one method

Where credit for work experience has been gained together in two or more of the NDT methods covered by BS EN ISO 9712, the possible allowable reductions may applied be as follows:


  • Reduction of total time required by 25%

E.g.

You will need to only present 480 hours for each MT Level 2 and PT Level 2


  • Reduction of total time required by 33%

  • Reduction of total time required by 25%

Reductions in experience as above, shall only be applied to applications being submitted together, reductions cannot be applied to applications submitted separately.

What happens if you do not fill in your PSL 30?

If claiming work experience please ensure you fill out as much detail as possible as insufficient detail will result in your certification being rejected by the test centre and subsequently BINDT (PCN).
