Course Description

We can provide:
  • We can provide Weld Inspector suitable for PCN/ISO 9712 Levels 1, 2, and 3, and ASNT Level 3. Alternatively, we can provide training suitable for candidates working to an employer written practice based on SNT-TC-1A; EN4179 and NAS410.
  • Lavender International follows the BS EN ISO (PCN) 9712 – NDT Qualification and Certification of NDT Personnel Standard for its Level 3 programmes. Lavender International cannot provide ASNT NDT Level 3 exams but can provide advice on the exam and training in preparation for the exam and contact information for exam locations in the UK and worldwide.

Learning Overview

What are the responsibilities of a individual who is certified to Weld Inspection Level 2?
  • Have a basic understanding of welding techniques, welding positions, welding consumables, weld preparation and welding drawing requirements
  • Be able to use welding inspection gauges and other commonly used measuring devices to check pre-weld fit ups and post-weld profiles
  • Be able to visually inspect welded constructions and correctly identify any weld/welding imperfection present
  • Understand the need for specifications, codes and standards and the need for acceptance levels
  • Verify that joint preparation and fit-up are in accordance with welding procedure specifications and/or work instructions
  • Basic examination and evaluation of weld sequence
  • Visual inspection of completed welds

Course suitability

Work Experience and Prerequisites
  • Pre-Course Learning Requirement: Completion and submission of PCN Weld Inspection
    Level 2 Pre-Course Questions.
  • These questions are equivalent to 10 hours training and must be completed in conjunction with the 40 hours training. Training Notes and Questions Package available to download on signing up to the course.
  • All students who wish to undertake main method Level 3 certification must hold a valid Basic exam (PCN) or equivalent ISO9712 acceptable certification.
  • Supervised work experience, can be obtained either before the examination, or within 24 months after passing the exam.
  • To progress from Level 2 to Level 3 requires a minimum amount of time spent as a Level 2. However, the time required varies from scheme to scheme and you are advised to review the appropriate scheme document when considering becoming a Level 3.
  • Issuing Certification
  • Once the training hours have been obtained, the examination passed, and supervised work experience obtained within 24 months of passing the exam, PCN will issue certification.
