An emerging technology in the field of NDT is Computed Radiography, this technology enables the digital capture of an image by use of a re-usable imaging plate (IP) which is coated with a phosphor layer, and when exposed to radiation is able to store the resultant energy. The IP is then scanned using a laser scanner which results in the stored energy being released as ultraviolet light, the intensity related to the amount of radiation received, these light intensities are then read by a laser and a digital image is generated. This image is stored as raw data, which means that although the image can be enhanced to optimise the contrast, magnify and measure the component the initial image remains unchanged.
Computed Radiography has many advantages over conventional radiography such as, no expensive film to purchase, no processing chemicals (more environmentally friendly), wider latitude to enable a greater thickness range to be captured on one exposure, sharing of images electronically and easier storage.
Course Description
- PCN GEN BS EN ISO 20807, level 2.
- Alternatively, we can provide training suitable for candidates working to an employer written practice based on SNT-TC-1A; EN4179 and NAS410.
Learning Overview
What are the responsibilities of a individual who is certified to Computed Radiography Level 2?
An individual certified to Computed Radiography Level 2 has demonstrated competence to perform NDT according to Computed Radiography procedures.
- Select the Computed Radiography technique for the test method to be used
- Define the limitations of application of the testing method
- Translate NDT codes, standards, specifications and procedures into NDT instructions adapted to the actual working conditions
- Set up and verify equipment settings
- Perform and supervise tests
- Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes, specifications or procedures
- Prepare Computed Radiography written instructions
- Carry out and supervise all tasks at or below level 2
- Provide guidance for personnel at or below level 2
- Report the results of Computed Radiography test
